Water Resources
Water is a critical natural resource – especially in southern Oregon and Northern California. Adkins is the only engineering firm in the region offering water resource services and we are proud to partner with Government Agencies, Non-Profit Organizations, and private land owners to help protect our natural resources.

Farmers Fish Screen
South Fork Sprague River
Adkins was hired by a local ranch to conduct a topographic survey and fish screen design on a tributary of the Sprague River. The irrigation canal was not screened and posed as a high risk fish entrainment. With voluntary cooperation from the land owner, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and various other agencies, a modular Farmers Screen from the Farmers Conservation Alliance was chosen. This specific screen can handle a wide range of flows from 2 cfs to 15 cfs, and needs minimal maintenance compared to other screens. Construction of the screen took place during the winter of 2017 and will be operational for the 2018 irrigation season.
Trout Unlimited
Canal Piping
Adkins partnered with Trout Unlimited to conduct flow measurements, a feasibility study and initial design for two irrigation ditches in the upper Sprague River watershed. The project studied the potential to conserve irrigation water by converting the earthen channels to closed pipes. The two ditches span a combined 9 miles and approximately 30% of the water transported could be conserved through piping of the system.
